#662 06/30/2007 14:35 CET ![]() User-ID: 1 Group: Moderators Hm, I should have put a moon image there instead of the sun. Doesn't make sense to put the sun in the night part of the quilt. #663 06/30/2007 16:37 CET User-ID: 20 Group: Senior Members Since it's possible to post again, I'll post my rant now :P I don't like the flow of this quilt. Each tile contains exactly one Egypt-ish elemnt, and that's it. Even though all tiles have proper blending at their borders, the checkerbox-effect is extremely visible here. It looks more like a disconnected series of images than a single big one. I think you should try to draw only some things at the borders of your tiles, or even just make transition tiles. #664 06/30/2007 16:43 CET ![]() User-ID: 1 Group: Moderators Guess most of us fell into that trap in this quilt. But even if it is a checkerboard, it's a decent one and IMHO ok once in a while. BTW where are your tiles in this quilt, hm? #665 06/30/2007 16:56 CET User-ID: 20 Group: Senior Members I'm still pondering how to do the transition in the Hidden Worlds quilt #666 06/30/2007 17:05 CET ![]() User-ID: 1 Group: Moderators Slowly. With that many context changes and different drawing styles it's not easy. I'm biting my teeth out in the jungle quilt, that %&$# lion has a really weird pose. #667 06/30/2007 17:12 CET User-ID: 20 Group: Senior Members Yeah, "slowly" and without another window/hole in the wall was my intention. However, since there are only two tiles left and the last one must fit from both sides, it's a bit difficult. I think I'll go with a painted castle. #668 06/30/2007 19:19 CET ![]() User-ID: 141 Group: Senior Members This is an example of the first tile dooming the quilt. The first tile gave nothing but a filtered sandstone texture on the edges and a faint and confusing diagonal line on the corners for the neighbors to go off of. Quilts should really only be started by more experienced artists. I've noticed that when a quilt starts off a lot of the tiles will follow suit from the initial tile... and that's exactly what happened. We ended up with a lot of tiles with something in the middle and nothing to blend into. Edit: Oh, I finally looked at who did the tiles. Jaylove made that entire streak across? Weird, people really shouldn't be given the option to pick tiles next to their own. I guess that's a product of the site not having enough artists working on quilts though. Looks kind of funky, eh? That's why I love the quilts that only show tiles to be visible when all the neighbors are done. The results are unpredictable and more fun I do have to agree with Sven2 about this quilt though. The transitions that go from stark blue to brown really adds to the disconnectedness of the quilt. I'm still curious to see the completed quilt though! #670 06/30/2007 19:31 CET ![]() User-ID: 22 Group: Members is it possible for the admin to shift the tiles around? it might look better if the hard line was at the bottom, which would wrap the light blue to the top.. #671 06/30/2007 20:35 CET ![]() User-ID: 2 Group: Moderators That's a good idea. I added the vertical wrap option, so you can shift the quilt around as you like. Role account for OnlineQuilt.net admins. I think that's fine. It can also help *prevent* the tiling effect, because you can draw an object across a larger portion of the quilt. It's also essential on the zoomquilts, because fast context changes seem to be a more of a problem than tiling effects there. Now that you mention that: We either just lost an artist, or she just got invisible somehow. I hope she will come back. You should also try to keep your critics a bit more constructive. It helps a lot to have someone speak up a little (I often wish I got more critics on my tiles); but you can be rather harsh at it. #673 07/01/2007 08:33 CET ![]() User-ID: 34 Group: Senior Members Yeah, that's strange. What happened to Jaylove? #674 07/01/2007 14:29 CET User-ID: 52 Group: Junior Members Too bad that this site often tends to get NEW users who, after finishing a few tiles, sorta think they are the only ones to know the way of the world. Geckzilla should really ask before she just throws weird conclusions at others. And I do have a question or two. Didnīt you learn any manners when you were young, Geckzilla? And why do your tiles often have a centred image, too? Do you think things will get better when noone wants to paint anymore becuse of your unfriendly, narcissistic comments? Oh, and finally: why do you create such a bad mood-even though you havenīt contributed anything to those quilts you are picking on!? No wonder there arenīt more artists around, when this sort of critique is not just a one-off on the menue. This post has been edited on 07/01/2007 14:47 CET #675 07/01/2007 14:45 CET ![]() User-ID: 141 Group: Senior Members I'm speaking from years of experience on the now defunct tiles.ice.org. I often do not participate on quilts that I do not like much. I'm not intentionally picking on one person though I now realize I have been on accident and after realizing it last night or so I have intended to lay off. I have strong opinions but I don't mean for anyone to stop tiling or anything. #676 07/01/2007 14:48 CET User-ID: 52 Group: Junior Members Little late for that as far as I can see. #677 07/01/2007 15:17 CET ![]() User-ID: 141 Group: Senior Members I doubt it. If she really enjoys it and thinks it's fun, then a few criticisms from me shouldn't stop her.
