#425 12/18/2006 17:21 CET ![]() User-ID: 2 Group: Moderators Great work so far! Although our edges still need some work, e.g. the green area. Time to implement the "replace tile" feature and do some QA Role account for OnlineQuilt.net admins. I've checked out a tile, I hope I can make a positive contribution to the quilt. Speaking of which, this place needs more activity! #442 02/19/2007 17:18 CET User-ID: 66 Group: Senior Members Are we going to keep this quilt abstract? Lately some representational tiles have been showing up. What are your opinions? #445 02/19/2007 19:39 CET User-ID: 66 Group: Senior Members The chicken, the eye, the hand, and the two faces ( I know the two faces were put in before this quilt was purely abstract...) This post has been edited on 02/19/2007 19:39 CET #446 02/19/2007 19:55 CET User-ID: 41 Group: Senior Members Abstract art today is generally understood to mean art that does not really depict objects in the natural world, but instead uses color and form in a non-representational way. But in the early 20th century, the term was used to describe art, such as Cubist and Futurist art, that depicts real forms in a simplified or rather reduced way - keeping only an allusion of the original natural subject. Such paintings were often claimed to capture something of the depicted objects' immutable intrinsic qualities rather than its external appearance. The more precise terms, "non-figurative art," "non-objective art," and "non-representational art" avoid any possible ambiguity. #447 02/19/2007 20:02 CET User-ID: 66 Group: Senior Members Which one are we going with then? This post has been edited on 02/19/2007 20:13 CET #448 02/19/2007 20:18 CET User-ID: 41 Group: Senior Members Dunno! Especially since many of those tiles are not really abstract but just fields/tiles with colors...maybe that is what is abstract about the quilt? This post has been edited on 02/19/2007 20:18 CET #449 02/19/2007 20:40 CET User-ID: 65 Group: Senior Members "Especially since many of those tiles are not really abstract but just fields/tiles with colors" I hate those hyper realistic artists like Mark Rothko, Piet Mondrian, and Jackson Pollack. **I have been guilty of one of the above listed breaks in abstract (the eye) **I have been guilty of more than one of the above listed breaks in abstract (all those tiles with colors) I understand that there will be tiles I do not like appearing in any quilt. I understand my interpretations of the given guidelines will differ from other people's interpretations. I also reserve the right to defend any image I make. On a side note I chose to add the "eye" to the quilt to help break up some of the spaces. I understood when I made it that it was not strictly "abstract". But I only added it to help make some of the other non-abstract tiles fit in better. Honestly I don't care what you put into the quilt as long as you : - try to fit the guidelines of the given quilt. - try to make it look as good as you can to your abilities. - try to blend with other tiles. I would just be happy to see MORE people participating in making image quilts. This post has been edited on 02/19/2007 20:42 CET #450 02/19/2007 20:46 CET User-ID: 66 Group: Senior Members Ok. So I guess we are going with the broader definition of abstract. Thats cool. #451 02/19/2007 20:46 CET User-ID: 41 Group: Senior Members I like the eye and I thought the gingerbread was nice too...but whatever...this is becoming much too difficult.... This post has been edited on 02/19/2007 20:50 CET #455 03/28/2007 21:00 CET User-ID: 65 Group: Senior Members I uploaded the wrong file (1686 instead of 1586) please replace with the file from my gallery i uploaded. #459 03/29/2007 04:22 CET User-ID: 111 Group: Senior Members I like the way this is turning out. While I can understand the concerns about whether tiles are abstract, I think that taken as a whole it will be about as abstract as you can get without resorting to throwing paint at a canvas with jet engines. One thing I've noticed is that I need to be careful not to try and put too much into any one tile. The ones I feel best about (which are hidden still) are simple in and of themselves, but not so simple when taken with their neighbors. I'll be contributing more over the next few weeks (time permitting). #460 03/30/2007 08:48 CET User-ID: 112 Group: Members This is great - can't wait to see how it ends up! #461 03/30/2007 15:33 CET User-ID: 65 Group: Senior Members ok, i made the tile under the tile that needs to be replaced. So that way no one would do it on accident. Once the tile is replaced with the correct tile it will blend seemlessly. #462 04/04/2007 19:44 CET ![]() User-ID: 2 Group: Moderators Thanks, I replaced the tile! It looks like it is moved down by the width of the border you are given when you check out a tile (16px?). #464 04/05/2007 08:06 CET User-ID: 112 Group: Members well.. looks like there has been a bit of action on this quilt lately. Cant wait to see the end! #465 04/05/2007 15:05 CET User-ID: 65 Group: Senior Members i agree something is off here. not sure if it is me or something else. #466 04/06/2007 14:10 CET ![]() User-ID: 2 Group: Moderators Yep, you are both right, I made a mistake while cropping the image. I replaced it again; this time it fits perfectly. Role account for OnlineQuilt.net admins. Please email webmaster at onlinequilt.net if anything is broken.
